Sam Law, Kerrang!, Summer 2016
We're not joking, Linkin Park just helped design a racing car. WTF is going on?!
Linkin Park can be a pretty high-octane band, but how did you get into designing a real-life racing car?!
Chester [Bennington, vocals]: "We've had the pleasure of doing some launches for Mercedes-AMG the past couple years. Through that, we developed a great relationship with the company. One of the ideas kicking around was the design of a GT3 car. We were psyched and honoured about that. To have a car with the [Linkin Park brand so prominent] was beautiful - incredible. We look forward to doing more events, especially with AMG's 50th anniversary coming up this year!"
And you met Lewis Hamilton, too! What's he like? Is he a Linkin Park fan?
"He's a sharp guy. He's incredibly confident, as we all saw by the way he dominated that race. He's really mellow with a great sense of humour. We had the pleasure of hanging for a little bit. Did he mention if he was a fan? Yeah! He told us he was a big fan, actually. And he invited us up onstage with him so he could take a selfie!"
Are there any other extracurricular interests the band are keen to indulge?
We really hope that this is something that'll help open the door for us. It's helped us to become fans of the motorsports that we've been involved in. But Mercedes-AMG have their fingers in everything. I plan on going to Fashion Week in Paris at some point to represent [the company]. We get to experience all the things that we love: fashion, cars, performances and creating cool content with a partner who has the same expectations of quality. The sky's the limit!"
